I've gotten a few questions about the little secret messages I've been including in my recent work so here's some behind the scenes. There was no real plan at the start. My cool neighbor religiously reads Raleigh magazine and kinda got me into reading local papers and magazines. I subconsciously started underlining sentences and phrases that caught my interest and eventually had the idea to start hiding them in my artwork. It's a fun practice pairing words with the unspoken mediums of color and texture. I dig it and hope it's able to bring out deeper meaning, not for everyone, but to the individual that resonates with it. Like it was created specifically for them.
The hidden message reads “God laughs when grown men make plans” and I wanted it to feel like a geometric map of all our life decisions that we feel power and control over. One thing I’ve learned over the last few years is that so much of this life is out of our hands. That can be an incredibly fearful reality to swallow, but there’s freedom in letting go of the delusion of control.
